Our Story

Started in 1985 by Nelson Hammell with a small retail store in Middleburg, Virginia, representing Deborah, the Duchess of Devonshire in the United States launch of her Chatsworth Garden Furniture which premiered at the Royal Horticulture Society’s Chelsea Flower Show in London. After conquering the hearts and homes of Washington D.C.’s most elegant Society Hostesses with their array of garden and home furnishings, Nelson and Pete embarked on a nationwide expansion that included sixteen stores from a Nantucket Island to Carmel, California, navigating the economic and political winds of recent years was certainly a challenge, as it was for all retailers, and eventually Pete and Nelson right sized the business to a 10,000 square foot warehouse complex in West Palm Beach, Florida, centrally located in the Heart of Florida’s Gold Coast, stretching from Miami to Vero Beach, with thirty years of inventive product sourcing and creative buying, we still thrill to the hunt of tracking down one of a kind pieces and jumping ahead of emerging trends in the home design industry
